How can the IP address be set for devices that can be managed thru SNMP. eg. Our DECconcentrator V3.1 firmware can accept SNMP SETS. Can the IP address of the concentrator be set thru SNMP. I know it can be set thru BOOTP, ELMS, OBM, but can it be set sole thru SNMP. Can any device's IP address be set solely thru SNMP. Raj ACT Singapore

Since SNMP operates over IP, presumably your device must have an IP address before SNMP can be used to manage it. As to whether you can change the IP address of your device once it is set, that depends on whether its agent supports SET for an IP address attribute. Perhaps someone familiar with the DECconcentrator will be able to tell you. -- Erik | |||||
2206.2 | No, other protocols must set IP address | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, DECmcc Development | Wed Feb 05 1992 20:14 | 4 |
This was answered off line. No, you can not set the IP address using SNMP. |
