V1.0 of the Translan AM will not work with V1.2 of DECmcc. There has been
considerable discussion about this already in this conference. Try
DIR/TITLE=Vitalink, or DIR/TITLE=translan.

P.S. Who is your customer and through what channels did they order the
Vitalink AM ?

2168.2 | Vitalink AM | USWRSL::GIBEAU_LE | Les Gibeau, Network Consultant - DTN 521-3294 | Wed Jan 22 1992 18:12 | 7 |
| Doug,
Thanks for the reply. I tried everything except title=translan.
The customer is Intel in Folson, Ca. They got the Vitalink AM from
Vitalink.

2168.3 | Do not install SNMP V1.1 on any V1.2 | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, DECmcc Development | Wed Jan 22 1992 23:18 | 6 |
| I presume that you mean T1.2.4 (the field test kit).
The SNMP AM is bundled with BMS in 1.2. You can not install
the V1.1 SNMP AM on top; attempting to do so will give you errors,
and quite possibly corrupt the installation.

2168.4 | Why not check for this for us??? | 14386::STRAUB | Networks Marketing Support | Wed Feb 19 1992 14:30 | 7 |

Why didn't the install check for this and not allow
you to go further? I realize I just shot myself in the
foot, but it sure would be nice if you suggested I not
do that when I attempted the install.

| If indeed you did install the 1.1 SNMP AM on top of T1.2.4, I recommend
you re-install T1.2.4, we made the same mistake, and all sorts of wierd things
happened until we figured out what was wrong.
Note that I am not part of the DECmcc group, so they may have more info.
We were using more of the toolkit commands than you may require, but just
be aware that the MANAGE/TOOLKIT/SPECIF command was broken after we did this...

| The V1.1 SNMP module instalation can't check for V1.2 cause it
was released before any 1.2 systems existed. That would be nice but
we can't undo history.
We are discussing adding a note to the text displayed by the BMS
install informing the installer that SNMP has been installed.
Would this help?
