2148.0. "Historian (recording) issue/questions" by BIS1::COLLEYE () Tue Jan 21 1992 03:59
Hello,
I encountered an issue with the historian and a
similar issue with the exporter. I will below
describe the issue with the historian.
Could you help me.
In advance, thank you.
Maurice.
HW: - VAX 6430
SW: - VMS 5.5
- DECmcc BMS V1.1 (the patch described
in MCC conference in topic 1267.4
only has been currently applied)
Problem description:
- I started the historian background job:
$ submit/log=sys$login/restart/que=tplab$batch/para=.MC_WORK -
sys$manager:mcc_historian_background.com
- tplab$batch is not a dedicated queue, but this queue is
not used a lot
L3> sho que tplab$batch/full

- I sucessfully started a recording for a node in the .MC_WORK domain, for the
counters partition from the iconic map
- If, for the selected entity (a node4) I try to show recording, modify recording,
suspend or resume recoring, delete recording for the counters partition, I receive the
message "No recording for the specified entity and partion"
- If I try to start again a recording for the same entity and partion, I receive the message
"Recording for "counters" partition already exist"
Additional information:
- In one of my directory I have found 5 files:
Directory ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE.DECMCC]

- When I start an MCC interactive session, I always set my default directory
to ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE.DECMCC.WRK]
- When I start a batch job, except if the submitted command procedure change
explicitely the default directory, it remains my sys$login (ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE])
- My maps are located in a third directory:
L3> sh log mcc_maps
"MCC_MAPS" = "ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE.DECMCC.MAPS]" (LNM$PROCESS_TABLE)
"MCC_MAPS" = "SYS$DISK:[]" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
= "MCC_COMMON"
1 "MCC_COMMON" = "SYS$COMMON:[MCC]" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
- If I delete the 5 files in the ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE.DECMCC] directory
(after aborting the batch baground job), I can start again a recording
for the same entity and partion (after starting again the batch background
job).
Questions:
- Why is it recommended to create a dedicated batch queue ?
- Are the symptoms described above the consequence of an
MCC issue or the consequence of a usage mistake I made ?
- In the first alternative, is there a patch in the topics
1267.* that I need to apply ?
- In the second alternative, what did I made wrong ?
For example, I do not understand the 5 *.mcc_his* files
location (ADG$USER_21:[COLLEYE.DECMCC])
- If you need further information about the environment
could you please be so kind to ask me what you would need)

| Thank you for your answer...
- I stop the historian backgound batch job
- I deleted the *.mcc_his* files
- I restarted the background job as in .0
- from the iconic map I start a recording (in the future)
for the partition COUNTERS (all upercases) ... request
sucessfully started
- As in .0, I tried a show recording (iconic map) for
the partition COUNTERS (all upercases) ...
same result as in .0
So, it was not the problem !
By the way, I was performing a request for a Node4 (either upper
case or lower case.. no mix)
What can I try next ?
Maurice.

You do not need all the items above.

A patrition presentation name can be entered in
any case you want ( including mixed case).
>By the way, I was performing a request for a Node4 (either upper
>case or lower case.. no mix)
The release note states that Node4 name (not a full name of Node4 !!!)
can be either upper or lower case but no mix.
>- As in .0, I tried a show recording (iconic map) for

Your problem is still in the difference between the full name which
has been used to register your Node4 and the full name of this Node4 in the
map.
>What can I try next ?
Please, do the following:
1. Start MCC with fcl interface;
2. Do Directory for your Node4, for example:
MCC> dir node4 WAKEME
Node4 WAKEME
AT 22-JAN-1992 11:36:12
Directory successful.
Registered Name = MCC1_NS:.wakeme <------------
Name = WAKEME |
Address = 4.160 |
MCC> |
3. Do Show Recording command using full name returned by Directory |
Here is an example:
MCC> show recording node4 .wakeme part=StAtUs,in domain historian_ft
Node4 MCC1_NS:.wakeme
AT 22-JAN-1992 11:45:13
Recording parameters for the partition "Status" :
Recording state = ACTIVE,
State since = 14-JAN-1992 15:41:43.95,
Polling period = 0 00:01:00.00,
Begin time = 14-JAN-1992 15:39:37.36,
End time = 25-MAY-2012 00:00:00.00,
Keep age = 45 00:00:00.00,
Request time = 14-JAN-1992 15:39:37.36,
Requested by = "SHMUYLOVICH",
Time of last successful poll = "14-JAN-1992 15:42:02.07",
Number of successful polls = 1,
Time of last failed poll = "NONE",
Last poll failure reason = "NONE"
Number of failed polls = 0,
Last historical expiration time = "14-JAN-1992 15:42:02.07",
Time of last expiration failure = "NONE",
Last expiration failure reason = "N/A",
Number of expiration failures = 0
MCC>
You will see that your recording request exists.
By the way, note that partition name in this example is entered in mixed case.
4. Do Show Recording one more time using different case for full name of the
Node4. In this example .WAKEME instead of .wakeme. You will see the
following result:
MCC> show recording node4 .WAKEME part=StAtUs,in domain historian_ft
Node4 MCC1_NS:.WAKEME
AT 22-JAN-1992 11:45:34
No recording for the specified entity and partition
MCC>
5. Now look at your map. Does your Node4 has a full name in the same case
as it has been registered (e.g. returned by Directory command)?
I think it doesn't.
6. To correst your situation you should:
a. Delete Domain Member (in my example
Delete Domain historian_ft member .wakeme);
b. Create Domain Member using full name returned
from the Directory command (in my example
Create Domain historian_ft member .wakeme ( NOT .WAKEME !!!!))
Hope this will help.
