Sometimes the registration procedure can take a long time (see my previous note).
It would be helpful to look at TRACE_REGISTRATION.LOG to make sure something
is actually happening:

$ type TRACE_REGISTRATION.LOG;2
%TYPE-W-OPENIN, error opening TRACE_REGISTRATION.LOG;2 as input
-RMS-E-FLK, file currently locked by another user

Could this file be opened shared?

        Hello Mek,

        Thanks for your input.  We are working on improving logging
	capabilities for Autoconfiguration on VMS.  Currently
        registration messages are being captured by reassigning
        sys$output to a file.  This causes the log file to be
        non-shared.

        We plan in the future to log registration using DECmcc's FCL
        logging functionality.  This way registration messages will
	appear on the screen as well as in a log file.  Messages
	on the screen will allow you to monitor the progress of
	registration.

	Whenever possible, the progress of other Autoconfiguration
	activity will be visible on the screen, if not logged to a
	file as well.
