2013.0. "Graphing historical data?" by TAEC::HARPER (John Harper, DTN 830 3647) Tue Dec 31 1991 10:31
I'm trying to get a graph showing historical data. I have a record of
the counters (for a line on my workstation) every minute.
The documentation for graphing is sparse, to say the least. However, I
have tried to do the obvious thing, using the "operation time" window
to set the start (a few minutes after recording started) and the
interval (every ten minutes). I then ask for a graph of a couple of
the counters I've been recording.
I get an empty graph.
What am I doing wrong?
Incidentally I find the whole "operation time" mechanism extremely hard
to use. Having got it all set up, I then wanted to check what I'd been
recording, using "show recording". This said "information not
available for the time requested", which puzzled me until I realised it
was trying to show the recording at the time I'd requested for the
show. This is not enormously helpful!
In particular, it would be nice if the information graphed could be
determined from the graph window itself, without having to mess with
the operation time. (Maybe it can... but I'm #%#ed if I can find it if
so).

2013.1 | Yes, it is very difficult to graph historical time with the real time graph. | TOOK::A_MOORE | | Thu Jan 02 1992 16:48 | 24 |
| Yes, it is difficult to graph historical time with the realtime graph.
Using DECgraph or DECdecision is more satisfactory. They are the best
recommendation for historical data graphing.
To use the real time graph for historical data pull down
Operation Time
scope of interest
absolute
Set a start time in the past
Set a Duration that does not cross the current time (NOW barrier)
Stretch the window to be wide to see more of the data.
Historical data graphing could implemented in future versions.
Also on the list of futures is making a simple time window that is friendly for
the commonly desired simple uses of time.
Please help document any income opportunities these features would provide.
