2007.0. "More problems installing V1.2.4 on Ultrix" by MUTTON::LAMB (Peter Lamb - GSG Santa Clara) Mon Dec 30 1991 16:13
Hello,
I seem to be having some very strange things happening with my DECmcc
installation on a DECstation 3100. The DECstation is running Ultrix 4.2
and I have made all of the adjustments for shared memory, semaphores etc
and the system has 24MB of memory but below is what I'm getting when
I try to install... The odd thing is that the map will come up and
other things seem to work even though, judging from the listing things
really went south...
Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated...
Regards,
Peter Lamb
P.S. I do have a copy of the release notes and have been searching them
for some clue as to why this is happening but so far am "clueless".

2007.1 | TCP/IP Not running | MUTTON::LAMB | Peter Lamb - GSG Santa Clara | Mon Dec 30 1991 16:27 | 9 |
| Hello,
I believe I have figured out what the problem is... TCP/IP doesn't seem
to be running any longer on my system (I can't PING myself).
The odd thing is that it was running fine before I attempted to install
DECmcc so I'm not sure what happened...

This is a common problem that will prevent MCC to run on a Ultrix system.
You should at least be able to ping yourself.
Check your /etc/hosts file, it should contain the correct information for
your machine : it seems that MCC wants to use APG14 as nodename, check that
APG14 is defined (be careful that nodenames are case sensitive).
Regards.
Pierre.

2007.3 | Yes, you must have TCP/IP running | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz | Fri Jan 03 1992 17:56 | 16 |

This is exactly correct. TCP/IP must be running. This is documented
somewhere (I forget whether it is the installation guide or the
release notes).
Some time before SSB ship we will be adding a check to the installation
procedure so that you get a more helpful message if TCP/IP is not running.
I have no idea why your TCP/IP stopped running. If you find out that
it had anything to do with the installation of DECmcc, please let us
know.
