2002.0. "T1.2.4 Iconic Map display questions" by HAZARD::BAKER (Paul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311) Mon Dec 30 1991 05:32

These questions are carried over from note 1902 as it seems they got missed
in the other answers:

Running T1.2.4 on VS3100 M48, 16Mb memory, VMS V5.4-3, using DNS

1 - Why, when looking down or up from an entity or domain, does the window get
    cleared by a downwards wipe, then have the original display recreated, get
    cleared again and then finally paint the next display?

    This appears only to happen when using a VMS system as the display, it does
    not occur when using a remote ULTRIX 4.2 system.

2 - Why, when closing the navigation window, does the main map window get popped
    in front of any other windows (eg the graph display)?

Both of these issues give DECmcc an untidy user interface from the customer
point of view and will not help to sell the product. They are also a waste of
system resources.

And the next display is also painted two times. You can see it very clearly
if you use a complex map (like the world map) in the background. If the
navigation window is also open you can see a lot of activity taking place there
long after the display in the main map window has stabilised. I also agree
that this effect should be eliminated.

Well, isnt it because you click on the main map window in order to close the
navigation window? Naturally this pops up the main map.

Umm - well yes, Peretz, you're right - too much Christmas spirit on my part - I
think...

Roll on '92..

2002.3extra repaint removedBARREL::LEMMONFri Jan 17 1992 11:2910
    The extra screen repaint was removed. It occured because we
    set the map workarea to sensitive = false then back to true
    when the lookinto/lookup completed. This caused gobe to
    repaint the entire workarea.

    Now we just disable the mb1/mb2 buttons. There are two side
    efects though... the scroll bars are not dimmed and the user
    can scroll around while the lookinto is occurring.

2002.4Window shuffle problem in T1.2.4CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentTue Jan 21 1992 23:5913
    I've also noticed a problem (T1.2.4) with a repaint and window
    "shuffle" when issuing a SHOW command from IMPM.

    The repaint of the map window occurs and any and all management windows
    for COUNTER, CHARACTERISTIC, ... are pushed behind the map window.

    Very irritating. Has this also been fixed?

    By the way, how many repaints will be present in the final release of
    1.2 when doing a "look into" operation?

    -Thanks,
     Dan
2002.5Need more info...BARREL::LEMMONWed Jan 29 1992 14:4213
    Dan,

    I can't reproduce what you are describing. Can you tell me the
    exact user flow?

    Also, the v1.2 iconic map will repaint only once for global entities,
    twice for child entities. The extra repaint at the global level was
    removed.

    thanks
