I have just thaught the DECmcc course and I have some questions Without answers: - What about a MACX terminal as user terminal in DECMCC ? - The reference data of an entity is in DNS ,what's the attribute which contains this? - Is the company BICC a strategic vendor? - If you want to register an entity (phaseiv node ) as A class station,without DECNET started it will not register the entity (enable to communicate with target) is this normal,normally he should recognize the ethernet hardware address? I need some inputs Yves

Bicc question. See the SVP note, I believe it was just updated. Unless it has changed in the last month, BICC is not a strategic vendor. We demonstrated some level of interoperability at Interop91 but have not had an opportunity to formally test their products via our SNMP AM. wally | |||||
1974.2 | REGISTER STATION, include Alternate Address... | CHRISB::BRIENEN | DECmcc Bridge|Station|SNMP Management. | Mon Dec 23 1991 09:20 | 23 |

Did you supply both the Address and the Alternate Address in the REGISTER command? The Ethernet AM should try ADDRESS is ALTERNATE ADDRESS fails to respond... Example command: MCC> REGISTER STATION fred ADDRESS 08-00-2b-01-02-03, - ALTERNATE ADDRESS AA-00-04-00-FF-FF If you DID specify both addresses, could you describe what type of STATION you were attempting to REGISTER? Some types of hardware don't respond to their address unless software is handling the request... Chris |
