I am going to demo the mcc product to a customer and have come across a couple of problems. When I try to register an snmp entity the product will not let me use any underscores in the name. The name I am using is consistent with that in the UCX$HOSTS.dat file. I never realized this before ,but why when an alarm condition has cleared is there not automatically some sort of mechanism to change the color to some other color which would indicate that there was a problem with this device but it has now been reset. I have also recently demoed the MSU product and found that the automatic polling of entities for alarm conditions is quite usefull without having to set up alarms for each entity. The color of the icon also changes back without any manual intervention. Lastly I am trying to poll a Gator Box which only supports MIB 1. If I do a show status to an interface on this device it times out and I get a no response message after some time out period. Other inquiries to the device all succeed without any error. This device also responded correctly to the MSU product when polled for this information. Thanks ,for your expected replys Harry

In V1.2, alarms will automatically generate a "clear" event when a rule fired condition is no longer true. Also in V1.2, we will be shipping some additional setup type tools to make creating large numbers of alarms rules (such as those for reachability) easier. See note 1030 and the keyword tools. Note 1030 describes a procedure that extracts entities from a domain or uses an entity list and substitutes into a template file to create command files. You could for example, run the IP autoconfiguration, create a template for an IP reachability rule, and use this command procedure to create all the reachability rules for the entities in the domains that autoconfig created for you. |
