1950.0. "MM Development : more questions" by CCIIS1::ROGGEBAND (_ hilie _) Mon Dec 16 1991 11:26

    Hello,

I'm back with more questions :

    1) The release notes for IFT 1.2 on Ultrix state that DECmcc on
diskless stations is not supported. Is this an IFT "feature", or will
it also be true for the product ?

    2) We are trying to design something which looks like an ILV - ASN.1
translating utility. For this, we need two-way translation of MSL codes
/ ASN.1 OID's. The last ECO on the SRM leads me to think that MSL ->ASN
is feasible. The other is slightly more complex as we can't access
object definitions in the dictionary using OID's, so I guess we'll have
to build some kind of "reverse parse tables". I was wondering if the
parse tables could be used to do this, and wether their format is
    documented in any way ?

    3) I haven't been able to find the FCL syntax which allows me to
specify a class wildcard for a child entity. Is this actually supported
    by the PM ?

    4) As time goes by, it seems we need to be able to pass a certain
amount of information down to the AM, which functionally are all the
equivalent of quualifiers. Currently, the only way to do this is to
pass donw dummy attributes in the In_p parameters, but it is not the
cleanest way of doing things. So, I was wondering if there was any
chance that MCC might provide a set of user-defined qualifiers, of a
simple datatype such as Latin1string ? this would allow us to create
filter objects, scope objects, etc in our modules and pass down their
    identifiers as qualifiers.

    5) This one is for our moderator : Should I create a topic per question
or is ok to group them like this ?

    Thanks for your help, amicalement,

    Philippe.

This is a field test restriction. We are currently making the modifications
required for DMS on ULTRIX, but they will not be in either the IFT or EFT kits.

As someone who is not a moderator but is handling a lot of notes,
I would suggest 1 note per topic, when they are diverse topics.
Otherwise, people see that there are one (or several) responses, and
may miss the fact that some questions haven't been addressed.
But it's up to you.

1950.2class wildcard not supportedTOOK::CALLANDERMCC = My Constant CompanionMon Jan 06 1992 16:2611
we dont' support entering a class wildcard from any of our PMs. We need to
make a number of changes throughout the system before that can be supported.

As to MSL to ASN codes, drop a note to Ruth Kohls to see if she can help you.
She is the resident ILV expert.

Dynamic additionof qualifiers would be great, but not in V1.2. You are n't the
first to mention it. Have you thought about submitting an ECO proposal on
it?
