I am trying to write an alarm rule to detect change of designated router. I am checking against the circuit characteristic DESIGNATED ROUTER NAME when I put in a CHANGE OF expression such as REAROU,* or *,* I get a message saying Data type unsupported. Has anyone got an alarm rule they would like to share with me...8*) This alarm is very important for our operation. I hope we can do it. Stuart

Hi, The Alarms FM does not support either phase4address or phase4name data type. The Designated Router Name and Address are phase4name and phase4address respectively. Another way to solve this problem would be to sink events from an end host which has REAROU as its designated router (Note: it could be the MCC host itself), looking for the circuit down event. This event will occur every time there is a change in the designated router for that area on a per area basis. The benefit of doing it this way is that you can do this in real time without any polling, thereby saving the polling cycles and management data. jean |
