The bridge AM has been removed from the BMS package (see the packaging
matrix; there is a pointer in the kit announcement memo).
I'm not sure when the Extended LAN Management package will be released.

The latest information I have is that LAN BU is targeting 27-December
for release of the DECmcc ELM EFT kit on VMS. This kit will layer on the
DECmcc BMS V1.2 EFT kit and include:
- Bridge AM
- Concentrator AM
- FDDI (Station) AM
- Spanning Tree Map FM
- FDDI Ring Map FM
The DECmcc ELM EFT kit for ULTRIX/RISC will probably be available
later...

1902.3 | Why bridge autoconfig with BMS, but no bridge AM? | HAZARD::BAKER | Paul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311 | Mon Dec 09 1991 18:26 | 8 |
| Re .1 and .2
Can anyone explain why, looking at the module/packaging matrix, the Bridge
Autoconfig FM ships as part of DECmcc-BMS, but the Bridge AM is an option? I
would have thought that for the Bridge Autoconfig FM to work the Bridge AM
was a pre-requisite.

1902.4 | *Please* contact Steve Lane for packaging | BSYBEE::EGOLF | John C. Egolf LKG2-2/T02 x226-7874 | Mon Dec 09 1991 19:35 | 9 |
| Please contact Steve Lane for any/all packaging
issues/questions. Packaging is a real rathole, many people
have been involved and I think it is fair to say that "nobody
disagrees", rather than saying that "everybody agrees".
In an effort to keep the notes down, pls contact Steve
directly.

1902.5 | That's Just The Way It Is | DELNI::S_LANE | | Wed Dec 11 1991 09:25 | 28 |

Paul,
To explain why a particular module or modules may or may not be
included in a package would require the recounting of too many
meetings. Suffice it to say that it were several packaging decisions
made by the powers that be in Product Management, Product Marketing, and
Engineering and that one such decision was NOT to include the Bridge AM
in the BMS V1.2 package. Your assumption is correct that the Bridge
AM or, more precisely, the DECmcc ELM AM package (which includes the
Brdige, Concentrator, and FDDI AMs) will be required to do Autoregistration
/Autoconfiguration for those devices. By the same token, the PA FM (or
Performance Statistics Package, if you prefer), supports Bridge statistics
but a BMS customer would still have to purchase the DECmcc ELM AM package
to get the necessary bridge counters. The alternative to this "a la carte"
approach, of course, is to purchase the EMS package which includes all our
modules. Also, just as there have been packaging changes from V1.1 to
V1.2, you can expect further changes as we go to V2.0 or whatever. It's
an evolutionary process.
Rgds,
Steve
includes all the available modules. There are lots
of different pre-requisites for different DECmcc packages. Most of
them are not included and have to be purchased separately.

1902.6 | Thanks - any answers for the other questions?
| HAZARD::BAKER | Paul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311 | Fri Dec 13 1991 08:09 | 10 |
| Re .5
Thanks Steve, I can imagine the discussions that went on to decide the packaging
strategy. I only hope the Sales force understand all the pre-requisites...-)
Re .0
Anyone care to comment on questions 1 and 2, please.

1902.7 | multiple refresh is an error - or so I was told | TOOK::CALLANDER | MCC = My Constant Companion | Tue Jan 14 1992 17:14 | 9 |
|
I am not from that team, but when I last asked those questions a
few weeks ago I was told (RE questions 1 and 2) that the multiple
refreshs was being worked, and that the popping the map to the
front had to do with how they set focus, and that they were
investigating how is should work (customer expectations).
