I'm the Product Manager for a new software product called DEC Queue Management Service (aka DECq) that uses DECmcc for system management. We're VERY much hoping to support VMS V5.4 as well as VMS V5.5 when we ship in June '92. I understand that, due to some significant bug fixes in DECmcc, we'll require DECmcc BMS V1.2. I hope you'll make every effort (with the CMA problems especially) to support VMS V5.4 at your V1.2 EFT and FRS. It's really painful to require all customers to update to the latest VMS version in order to be able to use the product; it takes months/years sometimes to get VMS upgraded at sites. If others here need VMS V5.4 support, pls say so. If you can please let us know the status of BMS V1.2 support for VMS V5.4, we'd appreciate it. Thanks and good luck with EFT, -LAS

Here is my understanding. I am sure I will be correced if I miss something here. DECmcc V1.2 does run on VMS V5.4 and V5.5. s/rob

DECmcc V1.2 BMS runs on V5.4 (most of our development machines are running VMS V5.4). To develop Management Modules for DECmcc V1.2 will probably require VMS V5.5 (because we use CMS/DECthreads, debugging MMs requires V5.5 DEBUG). Chris

For Field test we have only checked out VMS 5.4 and 5.5 (incidentally). The stuff we're building now won't run on VMS 5.3. There seem to be no technical reasons that we can't, we just haven't had time to back up and try it with a re-link, etc. We are planning to run on VMS 5.3 or later with 1.2 however, and will be doing the required builds during field test to verify our ability to do this. No promises, but that is what we're shooting for. -Jim (who is still running 5.3 and would be running something older if you'd let me) |
