1837.1 | MOTIF V1.0 works fine; VMS V5.5 should be OK | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Thu Nov 21 1991 23:48 | 9 |
| I am currently running DECmcc V1.1 BMS along with several access
modules under VMS 5.4-3 and DECwindows V3 (which includes Motif V1.0).
We will be upgrading to VMS V5.5 tomorrow. I don't foresee any
problems.
I believe I also saw a note from John Egolf stating that the
development group is running VMS V5.5 now with no problems.

1837.3 | more 5.5 testing | TOOK::CALLANDER | MCC = My Constant Companion | Wed Jan 08 1992 10:34 | 11 |
| my husbands group also brought up 5.5 with BMS 1.1. We worked fine
with the exception of a problem with DNS that required a patch.
I am going to see about getting a pointer to the patch listed here.
The patch was needed because of the speed of the system, it was
a 6000/40 (4 processor system). The multiprocessing/speed got dns
into a deadlock condition while in exec mode which caused the system to
crash. We have NOT been able to reproduce this on any smaller systems
(3100, 4000's).

1837.4 | Some other thoughts ... | LATACP::J_HASSENCAHL | CSC/Atlanta Network Support | Wed Jan 08 1992 16:47 | 17 |
| Hello,
The more that I think about this the more it seems like there is a good
chance that this is just a simple code/logic problem such that resource are
being allocated for the display of the statistics, but are not being released or
perhaps checked for when we come back around to display the updated information
at the next time interval. This is just a display that is updating automatically
and not a one shot type of thing.
Being that I do not know what the insides of things look like or how
they work, is this a possibility? Perhaps someone who is more familar with the
code could validate/invalidate this possibility given the repeating nature of
the display.
Thanks,
John

1837.6 | It consumes memory and never lets it go .... | LATACP::J_HASSENCAHL | CSC/Atlanta Network Support | Fri Jan 17 1992 12:21 | 9 |
| Hello,
The problem is that while having about six DECwindows statistics displays
updating every minute the DECW$SERVER process gets larger and larger until it
can no longer expand its working set and dies. The statistics are being pulled
from various lines on DECbridge 6xx's so you have some interaction with the
ELM AM. Does that make it clear as to what the problem is?

1837.8 | Don't know | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, DECmcc Development, dtn 226-5033 | Thu Feb 20 1992 14:36 | 3 |
| X1.2.15 is an interim baselevel update, with limited testing.
I don't know of anyone who has tried X1.2.15 with VMS 5.5 and Motif.
