1823.1 | the future (some fact, some opinion) | MCDOUG::MCPHERSON | My object paradigm needs integration... | Fri Nov 15 1991 15:20 | 22 |
| Not likely.
As far as I know (and I do *not* speak in any official capacity for Vitalink;
they can do or not do whatever they want...)
The next release of the Translan AM (if they do one) will likely only be a
'maintenance release' in that it will probably only contain the minimal number
of code enhancements to get it to work in a V1.2 (VMS) DECmcc environment.
WanManager (dead product, by the way) is a full-fledged Translan management
system. Vitalink's _strategic_ direction is with SNMP and their new OMS
Management platform (SUNnet Manager {again}).
The Translan AM _propoer_ is only intended to provide DECmcc (an *Enterprise*
management system) management access to Translan Bridges.
You can do link utiliazation *now* with EXPORT and some judicious use of
some Rdb/speadsheet activities... Implementing a "STATISTICS" attribute
partition for the Translan AM is not currently planned for, and that's about the
only way you will get "real time" (whatever that means) link utilization stats.

1823.2 | Translan AM support for DECmcc Ver 1.2 ? | COL01::WELZEL | Uwe Welzel, NaC, Cologne | Fri Nov 22 1991 04:50 | 6 |
| Thanks for your reply Doug,
does this mean that the current Translan AM Ver 1.0 doesn't work with
DECmcc Ver 1.2 ?

1823.3 | Correct. The mcc_ea routines changed. | MCDOUG::MCPHERSON | My object paradigm needs integration... | Fri Nov 22 1991 07:31 | 0 |
1823.4 | More questions ... | COL01::WELZEL | Uwe Welzel, NaC, Cologne | Fri Nov 22 1991 09:45 | 11 |

Doug,
when will the first update of the Translan AM be available ?
Can you tell us why the Vitalink Corporation is not planning future
enhancements such as performance management as stated in your reply
.1 ?
Why is not possible to get the information needed by our Performance
FM from the Translan AM ?

1823.5 | 1.2-compatible AM due by Feb. 92 | NSCRUE::KNIGHT | | Fri Nov 22 1991 12:09 | 14 |
| The Vitalink product manager for the access module is committed to demonstrate
it at the NaC Network University session in Boston in February, 1992.
If you want to see specific features (such as performance management), you may
want to define it as precisely as possible for Vitalink's consideration.
You could send a definition to Jim Pharr of Vitalink at SEETRA::VITA_PHARR.
He can exchange mail, but cannot read VAXnotes.
If you can provide a very clear definition, it will be easier for Vitalink to
estimate the time and money required to add the function, and decide whether
to add it.
