Hi everybody Here in Italy we have a customer (Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura) that need to use an equipment called Idea-Concert that permits to connect IBM and DEC printers/terminals. This stuff is somethings like a Terminal Server. Inside this equipment there is a TCP/IP stack and SNMP. Yesterday i had a meeting with the producer of the equipment (IDEA) and they told me that for the management aspects of the equipment they use the SNMP protocol. Now i need to understand if it is possible to use the SNMP - AM to manage it (adding private MIB). In particular if IDEA give us the ASN.1 description of the equipment can we add the IDEA-CONCERT as a sub entity of SNMP entity ? The problem is that we would like to manage the functional aspects of the equipment not only the communication aspects. We are interested to perform the following operations : - Disconnect port 1 - Show session 1 - Show port 1 - Set port 1 line speed 9600 ....... ....... In other words we would like to perform the operations like a Terminal Server AM operations. Do you think is it possible to do this using SNMP AM with IDEA MIB extentions or they have to develop an other AM ? Thanks in advance Raimondo

1739.1 | Level of management depends on SNMP agent. | DANZO::CARR | Wed Oct 30 1991 08:12 | 13 | |
Raimondo, Generally speaking, the SNMP AM should be able to manage IDEA equipment once the IDEA private mib extensions have been loaded. The level of management possible depends solely on what the vendor has made SNMP manageable. If the functional aspects that you mention in .0 are manageable via SNMP and the vendor has included this in their private mib, then the SNMP AM will allow this management capability. If, on the other hand, the vendor hasn't provided SNMP management capability for these things, then the SNMP AM won't be much help. Regards, Dan |
