1731.0. "Utility to read DNS information" by BSYBEE::EGOLF (John C. Egolf LKG2-2/T02 x226-7874) Mon Oct 28 1991 17:20

 Description:
	This command procedure will extract all registered global
	entity information on NODE4, NODE, BRIDGE, STATION, SNMP, DOMAIN,
	TERMINAL_SERVER, TRANSLAN, and CONCENTRATOR as well as the
	reference data from the current namespace.
	It will create a DCL command file named
	sys$login:MCC_LOAD_DNS.COM that can be printed or editted or
	re-executed when a different namespace is selected.

	The prime purpose for this procedure is to go from one namespace
	to another and will be used for DECmcc conversion of V1.1 DNS to
	the V1.2 local repository (or vice-versa).

	***AT PRESENT, ALL COMMAND ARE IN V1.1 FORMAT ***
	A new version will be created for V1.2 format (ie: SNMP changes)

	There is a newer version available from the sdame location. I
	found out that I was a little too lax in the anticipation of
	errors. It appears that if you don't have an AM enrolled at
	all (ie: TRANSLAN), no output file is produced and the com
	file assumed the file would always be there. If you've tried
	the program and had problems, try the newer version and let me
	know if you run into any additional problems.

	As V1.2 hooks are put in, yet even newer verions will be come
	available.

1731.2"orphan attributes?"TOOK::JESURAJWed Oct 30 1991 15:115
    Is this tool intelligent enough to copy the "orphan" attributes of DNS
    objects (example phase 4 line speed). May be I am asking too much.

1731.3Procedure can be modified to do the job CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentWed Nov 06 1991 00:3519
    If it doesn't, you should be able to make a few minor changes to make
    it do the job for you.

    I found this procedure just in the nick of time to repopulate a
    corrupted namespace. There are a few minor errors which I've fixed
    (eg, domain .m.seg54.MNTF2 is seen as domain m) and a few additions,
    but it works very well.

    You might want to reconsider the order in which entities are created,
    though. Some domain members are created before the entities are
    registered. This can be easily changed in the resulting command
    procedure if you don't care to modify the master procedue.

    I will be using it to populate a production namespace from a "sandbox"
    namespace.

    You read my mind and saved me much time, John. Nice job!

1731.4gosub problemREDBCK::mikeMike Dransfield, Sydney RSSGWed Nov 27 1991 23:1415
I ran this against a domain which contains 350 other domains in a hierarchy,
in the hopes of moving it from one machine to another machine to try and
reproduce some problems that we are having.

IT produced the error
%DCL-W-GOSUBMAX, GOSUB procedures too deeply nested - limite to 16 levels
just after the line
Parsing for NODE4 entity information.

Any idea what might be causing the problem?
My domain hierarchy is about 5 levels deep, but there are only about 20 node4
objects.

Thanks,
Mike
