| Ok, I'm guilty. I did find in the MCC ELM release notes that you have to create
the DNS directories for the concentrator. My question is, why not set them up in
the installation of ELM or, at least ask if they should be set up. I have also
learned that there are other modules for MCC that don't set up the directories for
DNS, I beleive this should be part of the installation.

This has been asked before, and I'm about to give the same answer as
before: The backtranslation directories must be created ON THE DNS
SERVER (using the DNS$CONTROL.EXE utility). We can't assume that the
DNS server will be running on the management stations (in large
networks, esp. with multiple DECmcc Directors, it's probably a good
idea to *not* have the DNS server on the management system).
Sooooo... we rely on telling the people to do this in the documentation
(and even sometimes as a *beeping* message in an installation script)
and providing DCL scripts that they can copy over to the DNS server and
execute, if they don't wnat to get into the DNS$CONTROL utility
directly.

Ok, I can go along with that explanation. But, as you said, how about notifing
during the installation that it has to be done or making it optional during
installation.
Thanks for the answers,
Brad

Ok. Those groups developing AMs (that need bactranslation areas), consider
yourself notified: Add a friendly reminder in your KITINSTAL.COM.
