Has anyone noticed the following difference between ELMS and MCC Bridge AM. Note the 'Device Broken Reason' in both cases. $elms show ar3_ar1 Device Status as of 10-OCT-1991 16:52:37 Name AR3_AR1, Address 08-00-2B-26-AD-45 Device State: OPERATE Current Forwarding Database Entries: 913 Current Non-volatile Forwarding Database Entries: 0 Current Protocol Database Entries: 0 Current Non-volatile Protocol Database Entries: 0 Management Request Heard Port: 2 LAN Bridge 100 Being Polled: 08-00-2B-06-D9-B6 Spanning Tree Mode: LAN Bridge 100 Inactive Forwarding Database Entries: 438 Time Since Forwarding Database Purged: 7304 Device Broken Reason: Selftest failure NVRAM Failed Flag: False Time Since Last Hello Sent: 0 Device Configuration: N/A $ $Mana/Enter show Bridge ar3_ar1 all status BRIDGE UKHUB_NS:.ar3_ar1 AT 10-OCT-1991 17:05:59 Status Examination of attributes shows: NVRAM Failed Flag = False Bridge Function = Bridge Management Heard Port = 2 Device State = Operating Best Root Priority = 70 Best Root = 08-00-2B-06-D9-B6 Best Root Age = 1 Seconds My Cost = 10 Root Port = 2 Time Since Last Hello Sent = 0 Seconds Topology Change Flag = False Topology Change Notification Flag = False Topology Change Timer = 0 Seconds Actual Hello Interval = 1 Seconds Actual Forward Delay = 30 Seconds Actual Listen Time = 15 Seconds Spanning Tree Mode = LAN Bridge 100 Mode LANBridge 100 Being Polled = 08-00-2B-06-D9-B6 Loaded Tasks = 0 Device Broken Reason = None Which one is correct? Bridge AM and DECelms interpret the attribute differently: - DECelms shows what the Device Broken Reason was the last time that a failure occurred. - Bridge AM shows what Device Broken Reason is (i.e. the bridge state is "Operating", not "Broken", so Device Broken Reason doesn't apply), not what it "was". | |||||

So DECelms is saying the bridge has had a problem sometime in the past (possibly before the last reboot) while Bridge Am is saying that because the bridge is operating, there is no need to examine the 'device broken reason' field. I assume that a reset to factory setting should clear the message. regards, Ian |
