1616.0. "DECmcc bombs Motif Manager" by DUCAT2::64544::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Tue Oct 08 1991 13:08

I'd like to know if anyone is successfully running V1.1 of DECmcc with the
V1.0 Motif Windows manager?

I noticed way back in note 1043 someone reported that MCC was crashing the
Motif manager.

I recently upgraded to V5.5 VMS and reinstalled the V1.0 Motif kit.
Granted this is field test VMS software, but it is a released version of
Motif. I can bring up MCC w/o a problem, but when I attempt to run through
several windows worth of inquiries, it bombs the window manager and logs
my session out.

This is a 3100 w/16mb memory.

I also noticed that, and again it is field test software, but when I try
to display MCC on my DECstation 325 PC running V1.05 of WINDX, the field
test MS windows DECwindows window manager, which is Motif, MCC crashes the
WINDX window manager on the PC. Other DECwindows applications work w/o
problems.

Could this be a bug, or is it possible that I have a quota or sysgen parameter
set too low?

Since I'm not that familiar with Motif yet, I'm not quite sure where to start
any tracing activity or logging.

Any help greatly appreciated.

	Al,

That won't help you with your problem, but we (PNMP) are running Motif
window manager over Ultrix V4.2 on DECstation 3100.

We are running the DECmcc/Ultrix FT update version (T122) without major
problems. We have also been running DECmcc V1.1 Iconic Map PM on VMS
V5.4 with remote display on a DECstation.

	Best regards,

	Marc.

    Hello,

FWIW I am running DECmcc v1.1 on Vaxstation 3100 VMS 5.3-2, and
Motif Window Manager V1.1 (not full blown Motif), the TOOL Kit
distribution. Seems to be operating ok.

    regards peter.

thanks very much for your responses.

It seems that I had some problems in my startup....I was starting the XUI
window manager which was causing problems with the display.

MCC seems to be more stable, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm also able to run other X Apps on the PC, but still fails when running
DECmcc. Brings down the WINDX manager.

I'll take this up with the WINDX folks.

thanks again,
Al

I've noticed in additional testing to WINDX, that if I bring up MCC w/o
opening a domain, I'm able to run MCC....not much use, but it doesn't
crash the manager.

It's only when some MCC icon is displayed.....(i.e. I can open a new
domain, then when I try to add something using the TOOLBOX that it
crashes again).

Anything strange about the icons or display mode that MCC uses?
