| Last I heard, a Gobe bug causes this problem. Generally if you click on the
Navigation button to get rid of the Nav Window and then click again to bring
it back, the title is ok.

1564.2 | DECwindows problem... | NSSG::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Mon Sep 30 1991 16:07 | 9 |
| To elaborate...
The Gobe bug is a DECwindows bug, not a DECmcc bug. Sigh... DECmcc
can't fix it.
As Verna says, the onl;y way around it for now is to remove it and
put it back to fix the title.

1564.3 | Shall we solve this one one day ?? | BONNET::MALAISE | All you need is laugh! | Wed Oct 02 1991 18:16 | 13 |

Hey come on , this has been outlined since Internal Kit of
DECmcc 1.1 , lot's of months ago .... This really make customers
feel that DECmcc isn't a 'ready to be used product'
because this error is so obvious !!!!
Is it so difficult to solve it ? I Understand this is not
a DECmcc problem (from Eng. ) , however it really impact
the quality of the product ....

1564.4 | Gibberish not seen with DECwindows V3 (Motif), but... | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Thu Oct 03 1991 01:43 | 12 |
| I have been running DECwindows V3 (Motif) for the last week and haven't
seen the problem. I agree that there should be a patch for those who
are running earlier versions, though.
There is a different problem in Motif, though. The only way I have
found to collapse the navigation window is to move it enough to expose
the lower right corner of the map window. At this stage, I can click
in the box to collapse the navigation window.
Has anyone found a better way?

| My understanding is that the DECwindows folks are not likely to fix the
widget bug before they consider it obsoleted by Motif. I have also
been pushing on the this for a year, but to no avail. So, I guess we
just apologise to the customer - "Sorry, it's a bug" and when they
get V1.2 they can use Motif and THAT problem goes away.

There isn't anything we're doing different for V1.2 around the
area of Motif. The Motif PM will follow V1.2 shortly there
after. You can use the Motif window manager NOW, does this
solve the problem?
I don't want people to mis-understand note .5 and think the
"formal" port from DECwindows to Motif is happening within V1.2
timeframe;- the plan has been discussed elsewhere in the
conference.

1564.7 | if it don't work, don't use it | ENUF::GASSMAN | | Thu Oct 03 1991 13:07 | 6 |
| If the bug cannot be worked around, perhaps the name of the domain
should not appear in the navigation window. I agree with MaRc. It's
a black eye on the product even though it's not the product's fault.

1564.8 | Another nit + a compliment for the Navigation window | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Thu Oct 03 1991 20:54 | 14 |
| A problem I have noticed with the navigation window under Motif window
manager is that the domain name in the nav window does not change when
you "look up" or "look into" another domain. The map changes, but not
the name. If you move the navigation window and click in the box to
collapse it, then click again to expand it, the correct domain name
appears.
I must give you a compiment on the nav window. I had two customers
looking over my shoulder as we were troubleshooting a MAJOR network
problem. Alarms began going off like crazy and the nav window lit up
like a Christmas tree. We were able to spot "rough" trends as a result
and found the problem in short order.
Thanks.

1564.9 | More on Motif & Navigation Window | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Mon Oct 07 1991 01:20 | 25 |
| A bit more info on the Navigation window under Motif (DECwindows V3).
Seems the domain name in the Nav window is always one behind, unless
you look into a domain which has no members or map. In this case the
name is two names behind. I haven't tested it any deeper than four
domains.
Example:
Looking into domains in sequence (.domain4 has no members or map):
.domain1 --> .domain2 --> .domain3 --> .domain4
- When you look into .domain2, you will see .domain1's name &
.domain2's map.
- When you look into .domain3, you will see .domain2's name &
.domain3's map.
- When you get to .domain4, you will see .domain2's name.
- When you look up from .domain4 back into .domain3, you
will see .domain4's name.
Hope this is not too confusing.
