1552.0. "Iconic Map/Alarm Processing" by NWACES::TRULL () Thu Sep 26 1991 10:18
In developing an AM, we have found that the Iconic Map seems to be
losing Alarm Instances. Some background...
The AM has the following Entity Hierarchy:
SP
/ \
SSP STP
\
Link Set
\
Signal Link
There are several events defined at the Signal Link level, some in the
Notification Partition and the rest in the Configuration Partition.
There is an alarm rule set on the occurance of any event in the Config-
uration partiton. When we force an event, the alarm is fired, the
Signal Link lights, etc...as expected. However, when we send another
event (different from the first but in the same event partition), we
can only see one Alarm when we Display Alarms, instead of a list
containing the two alarms. Regardless of how many different events we
send in the same partition, the iconic map only believes there is one
alarm.
Is this the intended behaviour?

| The Iconic Map only keeps track of the last occurrence for each alarm
rule. Since you have a single alarm rule defined, the behavior you are
seeing is what we intended. If you have multiple alarm rules defined,
one for each event, then you will see multiple alarms listed.

1552.2 | I understand, but... | NWACES::TRULL | | Thu Sep 26 1991 11:15 | 10 |

(Thanks for the quick response)
Is this going to change in V1.2? I have 60 events in the Configuration
Partition and another 60 in the Notification Partition. I don't think
it is feasible to define 120 alarm rules to watch for these events. It
would be most useful to maintain the list of ALL alarms until the user
explicitly Clears an alarm.

1552.3 | notification partition and notify directive in v1.2 | TOOK::CALLANDER | MCC = My Constant Companion | Thu Sep 26 1991 18:26 | 14 |
| your wish is but our command....
In V1.2 notification from the iconic map will be modified so as to
request (by default) any notification event NOT just those from the
alarms FM. The "notification pm" functions will also be added t othe
iconic map interface providing a more comprehensive interface into the
v1.2 notification fm functions. This means you will be able to request
an icon turn a color for ANY type of event in the system not just
notification events.
