1549.0. "customer problems: mono monitor & adding entity" by DC101::COLE (Govt DCC, Landover, Md) Wed Sep 25 1991 14:50
Is anyone getting these customer problems posted in
the Internet newsgroup on DECmcc ? I hope someone
can respond directly back to the customer.

Subject: X resources for DECmcc Director?
I'm displaying DECmcc Director Iconic Map interface on a DECstation
5000/200 CX with a VR262 tube (ie. greyscale). The DECstation is
running ULTRIX/UWS 4.2. DECmcc BMS is running on a VAXstation 3100/76
SPX running VAX/VMS 5.4 with UCX.
The backgrounds for the Map/Domain and Toolbox windows are coming up
black. (Note that the navigation windows are okay.) The black
background presents a problem since I can't see the background maps or
read any background text. All other dialogue boxes and other windows
are okay.
Anyone tried this combination? I would really like to be able to
display on my DECstation. If you know what X resources I should change
to fix this problem, I'd be most grateful.
Thanks.

Subject: Problem adding entity.
I'm having problems adding an SNMP entity to a domain. When I click on
the IP icon in the Toolbox, an Add Entity - Enter Entity Information
window pops up. I entered the name of the entity, specifically, the
name of a DECstation running the SNMP demon and hit <CR>. (UCX knows
about the host. SHOW HOST gives the name in both upper and lower
case.) Then another Add Entity - Enter Entity Information window poped
up. It said that Entity SNMP foobar is not registered, please fill in
the form. I filled in the form, clicked on ok and it requested that I
point into the map window and click on MB1. A few seconds later, a
Register Entity window poped up saying that the requested operation
could not be completed. The error was %DNS-E-UNKNOWNENTRY, Requested
entry does not exist.
Is this problem caused by an improper naming convention? My account on
VMS is fully priviledged. Any ideas?
Thanks.

| It's been discussed here before (e.g. in note 1008), isn't the most likely
cause that there's no .MCC_IP directory in DNS?
Meanwhile, I think the author of .0 was more concerned to find out if anyone
was aware of/monitoring this mailing-list/newsgroup. Would it be better if
these were answered by someone who's _not_ officially part of the engineering
group?

| The request for information regarding the monitoring of the
mailing-list/newsgroup has been passed on to management. They have
responded with a list of names of people within the greater
mcc environment that are now responsible for monitoring these areas.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
