U.S. NIS
Installed on node manfrd.
Three problems seen so far, one corrected.
1) Shows from iconic map on snmp interface counters hang and return error
about not enough core.
Created more swap space and that seemed to solve that problem.
2) Unable to create exporter db during install. Said that createdb command
didn't exist, although it is in /usr/kits/sql/sql/bin on the system and
is recognized after sourcing the sqladmin.csh.
Where can I get more info on creating this db post install? Release notes
don't go into a lot of detail on this.
3) See the following errors when I issue a show essential stats from iconic map
on snmp interface:
Xlib: sequence lost (0x10003 > 0xfd2) in reply type 0xd!
X Toolkit Warning: 0
Xlib: sequence lost (0x102c0 > 0xfd2) in reply type 0x86!
Xlib: sequence lost (0x10049 > 0xfd2) in reply type 0x14!
X Toolkit Warning: BadPixmap - parameter not a Pixmap
X Toolkit Warning: BadPixmap - parameter not a Pixmap
Xlib: sequence lost (0x10000 > 0xfd2) in reply type 0x1!
Thanks,

| Regarding 3)
Xlib: sequence lost and other X errors
Do they happen all the time or did you just try once, have a problem,
and not try again?

1486.7 | first try | NSCRUE::KEANE | U.S. DNS Service Development and Delivery | Mon Sep 16 1991 14:44 | 10 |
|
The errors in .5 were on first try showing essential stats after a couple of
successful shows on counters, etc.
I have tried it twice since, each time after the map pm was killed and
restarted, and in both cases the pm now hangs and I get no xlib errors.
Have to kill the pm.

1486.9 | | CCIIS1::ROGGEBAND | _ hilie _ | Wed Sep 18 1991 04:57 | 12 |
| Hello Erik,
DECmcc-Ultrix is up and running at the technology ACT in Evry France
with no major problems! I ran into some minor things, but I guess
they're due to my lack of experience with Unix.
Keep up the good work, you've no idea how many requests a week we are
getting for information on this product.
Amicalement,
Philippe.

| Have just finished installing DECmcc Ultrix on DECstation 3100, the
installation seems easier than VMS. What about the name server? DNS.

1486.11 | Here in Japan. | OSAV20::IZUTANI | Kenji Izutani,Tech.Consul.,CSEC,DEC-Japan | Wed Sep 18 1991 20:07 | 17 |
| Here just installed and run,but some problems were seen.
Location: Osaka, Japan
Department: NIS(NWSS)
Platform: DS3100 w/24MB Ultrix V4.2 , also running MSU.
Problem:
Once entered NODE4 and SNMP entities and queries are OK except some SNMP
statistics because of insufficient core.
Then quitted and run again, then queries got no answer. "ps -ax" showed no
access modules running. Then re-entered some entity, then AMs were started.
Very curious.

1486.12 | Running in Welwyn | WELLIN::MCCALLUM | | Thu Sep 19 1991 13:35 | 14 |
|
Location Welwyn, Near London, UK
Function EIS
Loaded on a DECstation 3100 for local use.
I had some problems with Kernel rebuilds, and found that
/sys/MIPS/HOSTNAME/param.c is overwritten by doconfig
by /sys/conf/mips/param.c.
Is this an error is the release notes ?
Dave.

1486.17 | UP on "notnet" | CAPITN::SITZ_GL | | Mon Oct 28 1991 12:05 | 17 |
| I have installed the kit and it is running....kind of...
Good: Icons and alarm rules created on a VAX/VMS production system
transported very well. The user interface seems to be very consistant
with the VMS version.
Not-good: There seem to be problems with crashes from a non-root
account. There seem to be several conditions that will hang the Iconic
map PM when running with the Motif window systm. There are also alarm
enable sequences that will "panic" stop my DECstation.
More details as I can isolate them.
Regards,
Glen R.
