Hi, I am interested in determining if future releases of the historian will allow recording of alarm counters. I beleive that it currently only supports recording of counters from Phase IV nodes and bridges. The basis for this question is as follows: My customer site has a number of overseas circuits, their own bandwidth, common carrier pipes as well as switched connections via X.25. We currently are alarming on circuit state changes on all circuits, backup circuits included. It is highly desirable to provide a profile of the number of times a circuit is down with respect to the particular service provider. This will provide meaningful data for determinations about the overall quality of service provided and connectivity. Thanks, Dave Comfort

my understanding is that the hisotrian allows recording of any entity counters, where the entities management module supports the show all counters commnad. The actual problem here is that the historian runs detached and the alarms FM runs within the process from which it was enabled, and the counters are only available from within that process, making them unavailable to the historian. In the ultrix model this has been solved but for the VMS model more work is required, and I don't know of a scheduled date for this task. jill |
