Hello, My customer is using DECmcc VMS V1.1 and referred to me the following strange behaviour for static domains : "If I set the domain type to static, the notification of alarms don't work in this domain or in it's sub-domains. That means that even though the alarm rules fires, and the notification is enabled there are no color change on the Icons. In other words, it is impossible to have a color change on an icon, even though the domain, in which the icon is contained, is displayed However, if the domain is of the dynamic type, everything works OK." 1)- I thought he should get at least the notifications of rules related to members (entities, not nested domains) of the displayed domain. I am wrong ? 2) - Should it work the way he says, or must I tell him to give me enough information to enter a QAR ? Regards Catherine

Catherine, The root domain (specified during the Open Domain) will always allow icon color changes once notification is enabled. You're right in that static domains only has meaning when used as a member. Therefore, if your customer is trying to get notification on entities in the root domain, even though all the other domains are static, it should still work. What will not work is getting notification through the static domains. In other words, the static domain icon in the root domain map will not change. Christine | |||||

Hi, Christine.... Carrying in this discussion (a little belatedly....) If I create a static domain test under my 'root' domain, and within domain test I register a Phase IV entity and define an alarm on that entity, I do not get a colour change on the Phase IV icon when the alarm is fired if the domain is being displayed as a consequence of doubleclicking on the 'test' icon from the 'root' domain. However, if I use the 'Open Domain' command to open the 'test' domain, and enable the alarm I do get a colour change. Is this what you were describing in .-1? If so, why does it work like this? I would have expected a colour change on the icon however I had opened the domain map. This is MCC 1.1, (seen on VMS 5.4-3 and VMS 5.5) Rgds, Graham |
