1350.0. "message "no such host <hostname> for MM etc" (mcc/ultrix)" by TOOK::SWIST (Jim Swist LKG2-2/T2 DTN 226-7102) Fri Aug 16 1991 13:58
This has come up several times so its worth posting to a wider
audience.
Note that MCC/Ultrix uses an RPC to communicate among subprocesses. In
preparation for distribution of MMs, that RPC uses TCP/IP as its
transport mechanism, even where all MMs are in the same host.
This means your internet stuff must be up and running before MCC will
work. MCC installation (erroneously) assumed this happens by default
when Ultrix is installed. Make sure you run /etc/netsetup. At
minimum, your local host must have a name and address. It is not
necessary for communication to be setup with any other host.
If you cannot ping yourself, MCC will not run and the above messages
will result.
