1344.0. "Registering problem with IMPM" by COL01::WELZEL (Uwe Welzel, NaC, Cologne) Thu Aug 15 1991 11:30
We are having a problem adding a station or domain (for example) in the
iconic map when working out of an account other than the system
account. Adding a domain from the command line mode of DECmcc works.
This account has the same priveleges as a system account. In DNS we
have set the following priveleges for this account for the root
directory to be:
read, write, delete, test, control with the flag propogate.
After "moving the pointer to the map window and clicking" we get
an error message something like:
"entity does not exist" because DNS object .uwe does not
exist. (we were trying to create the domain .uwe inside the
domain map .b151)
or
"unable to create domain" because decnos_ns:..b151 member
decnos_ns:.uwe does not exist.(in this case we were trying
to create a domain called .uwe inside the domain map .b151 which
are both in the namespace called decnos_ns:)
DECmcc information: DECmcc V1.1
DNS V1.1 (patch applied)
VMS 5.4-2
We have also recently upgraded our system from 5.3 to 5.4-2. Are there
any known problems as a result of such an upgrade?
Any information that anyone might have to help us with this problem we
would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone known of a "good document" that
describes DNS security that would also be helpful. (the general
management guide that we have is quite vague and hard to understand)
Thanks in advance

1344.1 | FYI Food for though... | SPANKY::SHEEHAN | | Thu Aug 15 1991 14:53 | 10 |

I too have encountered this problem. My systems are running: VMS 5.3-1
DNS V1.1, DECMCC V1.1. The one thing I can offer as food for thought is
that one on of my systems during DNS installation I added a user name
to the dna_registrar group. This user can do all that can be done via
system account. On my other system I have added user names to the
dna_registrar group using the DNS_setup.com procedure after the
installation etc. These users do NOT have the same access as the
system account (it could almost be called NO access). Hope this helps a
little...
