1327.0. "Managing a DEMNA?" by TROOA::GILBERT () Fri Aug 09 1991 14:08

Has anyone tried using DECmcc to talk to a DEMNA? I have a VAX 9410
customer who is interested in seeing if DECmcc can effectively manage
and monitor this device. I an looking at the DEC LANcontroller 400
Console User's Guide and it appears the DEMNA keeps all sorts of
traffic statistics that would be useful to monitor and alarm.

If it is possible, would the DEMNA be registered as an Ethernet
Station? Would it be able to get at the counters, and therefore set
alarms on them? Is this an application for a DEMNA AM or FM?

    Thanks in advance,

The Ethernet (Station) AM will treat the DEMNA as target for Station
requests (SHOW STATION x ALL CHAR|STATUS|COUNT, TEST STATION x), assuming
that the requests are not originating from the DEMNA in question.
These requests are limited to MOP REQUEST-ID, MOP COUNTERS, IEEE802
XID|TEST, and Ethernet V2 Loop and Loop with Assist.

Alarms could be written for MOP Counters that are returned,
however...

The DEMNA is offering additional counters/functions that are accessible
via the QIO interface (Remote Console?). The Ethernet Station AM does
not support these value added functions.

Yes. Sure would be a nice addition to DECmcc...
