1280.0. "Incorrect Packet Rates for WANrouter 500" by CTHQ3::WERST (Tom Werst - Corporate Telecom Eng - (DTN)227-3987) Tue Jul 23 1991 17:33
I was recently doing performance testing on the WANrouter 500 and was
getting incorrect statistics being reported by the Performance
Analyzer.
I was generating traffic on a private test network using RTG (Router
Traffic Generator), which allows you to specify a packet generation
rate, and maintains statistics on packets sent and received. Each of
the LANs were monitored with an HP LAN Analyzer, in addition to DECmcc
being run. The DECmcc command used was:
SHOW NODE <NODENAME> ALL STATISTICS, AT EVERY 0:1:0 UNTIL +0:15:00, FOR
START (-0:00) DURATION 0:1:0
According to the RTG report and the LAN Analyzer there were about 390
PPS being forwarded by the router. DECmcc, however, reported a packet
forwarding rate of about 540 PDU/sec. Increasing the duration to 3
minutes did not improve the accuracy of the statistics.
Statistics which were gathered on a circuit by circuit basis appeared to
be at least in the ballpark (within 10 - 20%). Phase IV statistics for the
DECrouter 2000 appeared to be accurate.
I understand that Ian Pratt of Reading, UK has identified some problems
between the PA and Historian and the Phase V access module. Could this
problem be related?
This problem has already been brought to the attention of the PA
project leader through Wally Matthews.

| Tom,
It is Peter Hill @REO (RDGENG::HILL) who has found some problems between the PA,
historian and PhaseV AM, not me!!
Cheers
