For those interested in graphical displays, I have a new tool that uses DECwindows and don't need DECgraph (see note 557). I developped this tool with Denis Choukroun of the European Network Operations group in Valbonne and it has been used by the netw ops for some attributes only, but it should work for any statistic or counter attribute. Please report here any bug. It can be found on WALNUT::DUA0:[PUBLIC] (walnut is 51.1021) MCCPERF_DISPLAY.BLACK_UID MCCPERF_DISPLAY.COM MCCPERF_DISPLAY.EXE MCCPERF_DISPLAY.OBJ MCCPERF_DISPLAY.UID How to use it: 1- copy the .exe and .uid into your working directory (copy mccperf_display.black_uid to mccperf_display.uid for black and white monitor). 2- define a symbol pointing to the executable perf :== $[mydir]mccperf_display 3- submit in batch a com file containing MCC commands to create a file that mccperf_display will read.Or use an existing file. 4- eventually set display/node and run mccperf_display $ perf file_to_read [bars] [refresh rate] [delta] [banner name] [bars] gives the numbers of samples displayed.Default is 10.Maximum is 300. [refresh rate] time in milliseconds between 2 file reads.Default is 60 seconds. [delta] 0 = data is displayed as is for a statistic attribute and the delta (difference) between 2 consecutive values for a counter attribute.This is the default. 1 = real data value of the attribute will be displayed for a counter attribute (no difference) [banner name] name displayed on the window banner to distinguish several mccperf displays. Enjoy mccperf_display. Well, I tried it and I got an error (see following);
31> perf [.mccperf]ISLAN1_SYN0_OUT_UTIL.PERF 10 10000 0 test
X Toolkit Warning: DRM: I18NOpenFile: Couldn't open file
MCCPERF_DISPLAY.UID - D

X Toolkit Warning: Drm__OpenHierarchy: - DRMNotFound
Can't open Hierarchy DRM
Any idea what I did wrong?
thanks

Will this work on ULTRIX? DECnet-ULTRIX was interested in a similar
tool.

Rob,
This usually happens when the executable cannot find the .uid file.
Did you copy it? Is it in the same directory that you are when
you involke the .exe?
Ben,
For 1.2 we've implemented a graphing function whereby you can
graph attributes in a realtime fashion. It even runs on Ultrix!! :>

Rob, Fred's answer is correct: the .uid should be in your current directory. Small detail, in the command all the parameters betweeen [] are optinal, that's why there are defaults. You can just type: perf [.mccperf]ISLAN1_SYN0_OUT_UTIL.PERF except if you want a banner name of "test" or a 10 s refresh rate. Ben, as Fred said for Mcc 1.2, there will be much better and integrated graphics. But in the meantime, there is a need for such graphs with MCC 1.1.We use this for our Customers demos in the European ACT and also for the network operations on the site (valbonne). Anyway I am going to install the ft MCC/Ultrix kit and port it. I am going to remove the "real time" text of the window as the tool can be used for real-time graphs but also for recorded data. You can also create an alarm rule on a line utilization or an error rate that will fire such a window. If time permits, I plan to create a user interface, so the user has just to enter the entity, attribute and time spec.Everything behind being hidden to the user. And also to adapt it to be able to work on data extracted from RDB...no commitment so far. | 1274.5 | Old prob fixed, New problem. | NSSG::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Tue Jul 23 1991 13:58 | 28 |
Thanks Fred. Now I get a window.
However, the vertical axis is labled 1 - 9 and my data varies from
18 to 25 but the bars only seem to be one pixel high.
???
here is a sample of the data
Node4 CLAUDI_NS:.nssg.host.islan1 Line syn-0
AT 22-JUL-1991 13:03:11 Statistics
Outbound Utilization = 19.2 Percent
Node4 CLAUDI_NS:.nssg.host.islan1 Line syn-0
AT 22-JUL-1991 13:18:12 Statistics
Outbound Utilization = 25.33 Percent
Node4 CLAUDI_NS:.nssg.host.islan1 Line syn-0
AT 22-JUL-1991 13:33:11 Statistics
Outbound Utilization = 19.7 Percent
I would expect to see the bars be taller.

Hi Rob, As I said we have done some limited testing. This is a known problem... fix coming soon. In the meantime, use the node4 synonym. Manuel. | |||||
