Distribution of documentation for Vitalink's Translan AM is an open item
right now. We have dispensation to distribute the Vitalink's AM code
_within_ Digital for our own _internal_ use.
I do not know what Vitalink will choose to do. The way I see it (and this
is my *own* view of things) they can do about 4 different things:
1) Bundle the documentation with the code as one order number and
require that you buy one to get the other...
2) List the documentation as a _separate_ order number from the AM and
allow anyone (including Digital) to order it separately
3) Give a PostScript version of the documentation for the AM to
Digital for *in house* re-distribution on Easynet.
4) *Sell* a PostScript version of the documentation for the AM to
Digital for *in house* re-distribution on Easynet.
Hint: The documentation that Vitalink has been developing is *strikingly*
similar to the BRIDGE AM USE GUIDE. If you are familiar with the bridge
AM, there are only a few differences that you will ever care about.
You can also learn a LOT from reading the Release Notes (bundled with the
kit) and the Online help (Onlkine help is a new addition, incomplete and
rife with errors, but it's coming along...)
Did that help?

Not to complain, but it sounds like Vitalink is being a bit foolish
here. If they control access to the documentation then they should get
their act in gear quickly if they want the AM to be successful. The
more Digital (and its customers) know about the AM, the more the AM
itself will sell...

1208.3 | Not foolishness, MIke: _indecision_.

| Mike,
I believe I said they were *undecided*.
Beyond that, it's only a problem of
1) distribution mechanisms
2) price , and
3) electronic publication tool softcopy compatibilities

1208.5 | Buy it from Vitalink. | TOOK::MCPHERSON | My object paradigm needs integration... | Wed Dec 04 1991 08:21 | 16 |
| Well,
Vitalink is no longer indecisive about how they are going to handle
documentation distribution: You will have to buy it from them
directly. We have no distribution rights for the documentation.
Personally, I believe this is a foolish decision on Vitalink's part,
but I have no say-so in their decision-making process.
If this is a major problem for you, the best you can do at this point
is to call either Doreen Pizarro at Vitalink (510) 795-6252 or
Dave Terzian at Digital (DTN) 226-5611 and try to work it through
them.
Sorry,
