1157.0. "EXPORTING problems" by MAYDAY::ANDRADE (The sentinel (.)(.)) Mon Jun 17 1991 13:49
Having problems starting to EXPORT data, not a single record
exported to date.!!!
First:
When I tried to EXPORT past recorded data. The command failed
to create the RDB file and export the data. The RDB file was
only created when I started the background EXPORTER process,
wich I don't want and didn't think I needed (when exporting
past recorded data only).
Second:
Even after the RDB file was finaly created. I am still unable
to EXPORT data. Trying to export recorded data hangs the my
current process as well as the sub-process created by the EXPORT
command. In such a way that only by killing the processes, can
I abort the hanged EXPORT command...
Trying to EXPORT future data. The system accepts my command,
but when I do a SHOW EXPORTING I see that it doesn't export
anything at all.
I have tried all this from the Iconic Map, Line, and Forms PMs.
Showing the data works ok.
...
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to set up,
that I didn't find on the manuals, ...

You have to start Exporter background process even for
past data exporting.

It looks to me that background process has been created after
past time export was in progress or writer process (created by
background) terminated.
What entity are you trying to export?
Could you see past time data using Show command from Icon Map?
Just a note: past data exporting is much more complicated that
future data exporting; I would recommend to begin with future data.

Did you restart the background after "killing" him?
