o Enables management of Vitalink bridges from DECmcc
o First Access Module available from a DECmcc Strategic Vendor
=========================================================================
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Vitalink Bridge Access Module (AM) allows customers to manage their
Vitalink bridges through the DECmcc family of products.* Using the
common user interface provided through DECmcc, customers can manage their
Vitalink bridges in a manner similar to Digital bridges.
The Vitalink Bridge AM allows the network operator to display
configuration, status, and counter information for TransLAN bridges. In
addition, the operator can configure spanning tree and line variables,
create protocol filters, create destination address filters, add
addresses to the forwarding data store, enable and disable serial lines,
and perform a system reboot. Source address filters and pattern matching
filters cannot be set through the Vitalink Bridge AM.
Information obtained by the Vitalink Bridge AM can be used by function
modules available with the DECmcc packages. First, the Alarms function
module can be used to determine when counters exceed thresholds and alert
the operator by changing the color of an icon on the map or by sending
mail. Second, the Historian can store information from the Access Module
in the Management Information Repository. Third, the Exporter can store
information in an RdB database from which reports can be generated.
Additionally, 4GL languages can be used to access this data.
*The DECmcc family of products is an implementation of the Enterprise
Management Architecture (EMA). These products include the following:
o DECmcc Basic Management System (BMS), Version 1.1
o DECmcc Site Management Station (SMS), Version 2.1
o DECmcc Enterprise Management Station (EMS), Version 2.1
For further information, see Sales Update issues of July 5, 1990 and
October 15, 1990.
The Vitalink Bridge AM requires the following software versions:
TransLAN 350 Version 10.4.2 minimum
TransLAN 335 Version 10.4.2 "
TransLAN 320 Version 20.2.2 "
TransLAN III Version 6.10.2 "
POSITIONING
Customers that have a multivendor enterprise-wide environment will want
to use DECmcc to manage their networks. The Vitalink Bridge AM fits into
this environment well since it allows network operators to manage
Vitalink equipment through the common user interface provided through
DECmcc. The Vitalink Bridge AM uses the Remote Bridge Management System
(RBMS) protocol.
