With our current SNMP AM V1.0 or later versions, Will it be possible to reset an SNMP based router. Eg. Can we reset a Wellfleet router with the SNMP AM. Can we reset our Ultrix systems with SNMP AM??? Are the above possible with SNMP or must the router and systems be reset from their console itself. Raj SWS Singapore

> V1.0 and RESET TCP/IP SNMP AM V1.0 only supports SET and SHOW to MIB I variables. There are no MIB I variables that do the "reset" function (Reset in SNMP would most likely be mapped as the setting of a variable). > Beyond V1.0 There is nothing that we've found in the Wellfleet private MIB extensions that would allow for a "reset" to be done via the SNMP protocol. The console is it. Note that we have no control over this (it's THEIR agent). There is nothing that we know about in the Ultrix SNMP Agent implementation that allows "reset" to be done via the SNMP protocol. Whether the Common Agent folks decide to add this functionality is not known to us. If they support it, the DECmcc V1.2 TCP/IP SNMP AM will also. | |||||

As Wellfleet routers support TCP/IP and Telnet, it is possible to connect to the console over the network and perform the reset function. - Mike |
