880.0. "Inconsistent use of Abbreviations" by NETCUR::WADE (Bill Wade T&N Course Development) Mon Apr 08 1991 10:53
I included an mcc log that shows an inconsistency in the use of
abbreviations. Show recordings does not allow the abbreviation of the
attribute partitions; char,count,..
I spent some time trying to figure out why my recordings were not
running when they were.
V1.2 should allow the same abbreviations in the Show Recordings
directive that are allowed in the Show directive.

880.1 | naming consistency causes user inconsistency | TOOK::CALLANDER | | Mon Apr 08 1991 12:24 | 9 |
| Okay, what is happening is this. The SHOW directive is defined as an
examine directive, meaning it works on attributes and attribute partitions/groups.
But the SHOW RECORDING command is an action directive which means it works
on arguments like PARTITION. For this reaons the PMs can handle the abbreviations
on the SHOW but it is up to the historian FM to handle it on SHOW RECORDING.
I will qar this. Their handling of the argument, if the names are made to
look just like the partition names, should also allow for reasonable abbreviations.
