879.0. "Terminal Server Icon Name" by CCIIS1::ROGGEBAND (_ hilie _) Mon Apr 08 1991 09:28

Hello,

This is actually a reply to topic 846 but as replies on that note have been
disabled... Mr. (miss ?) Moderator, please move this if you can...

Well, I've done what I threatened to do, I issued the following commands under
DAP :

$ MANAGE/TOOL/DICT

DAP>Use Class terminal_server
DAP>SET DEFINITION CODE 6 TYPE T COUNT 1 LENGTH 9 -
  VALUE "DECserver"
DAP>exit

$ MANAGE/TOOL/PARSE

.... (have a coffee break)....

I had to rename the Icon, as mentionned in one of the replies to note 846. I
also had to create a MCC_DECserver_BackTranslation directory, which meant
deregistering all know terminal servers, and re-registering them as DECservers.

I wouldn't really recommend doing this as :

a) I suppose it's unsupported (?)

b) The documentation doesn't match commands any more, as I now have to type

 MCC> SHOW DECserver XYZ ...

But it works, and I now have a clean toolbox display.

On the other hand, it's ok for demo purposes, and can be used as an argument
in favour of the "openness" of the product !

Cordialement,

Thanks for trying it out. Glad to hear it did work. Note 846 will remain
locked since the note seemed to have progressed to its logical conclusion...
a future committment to fix the iconic map handling of long entity class
names (BTW: John Egolf who answered that note is the senior manager for
DECmcc, what he says goes).

An aside; there are several moderators of this conferences. The most active
are myself (and that is a Mrs, "Mr. (miss ?) Moderator") and John Egolf.

879.3Intermittent overwrite of text..SIOG::TINNELLYRound the house and mind the dresser..Wed Jul 17 1991 05:5112

    Hello,

    I have noticed that when I bring up the toolbox, that I am getting an
    overwrite with the Domain and Bridge text. ie. the N in domain is
    slightly overwriting the B in Bridge, and also the N in STATION is
    overwriting the N in NODE4. This seems to be happening intermittently
    when i bring up the Toolbox, sometimes it is OK.

    Have you seen this?

    regards peter

Hi Peter,
I have never known this to be intermittent but we did fix the positioning
problems for v1.2. Is your server using 75 or 100 dpi?

879.5Working on the 75 DPI !!SIOG::TINNELLYRound the house and mind the dresser..Thu Jul 18 1991 08:5612

    Well spotted, I know now why it is intermittent, is because I have a
    VT340 on my desk, so I have been firing it up on different peoples
    workstations when free. So I have pinpointed that it is working on several
    DECSTATION 3100 with 16" colour monitor i.e a VR297-D3. It is
    overwriting on the 19" screen. It is difficult to tell from ULTRIX
    which fonts are being used, as it shows both the 75 and 100 dpi
    installed. How can I tell which font is being used, is this a question
    for the ULTRIX notesfile.?

    many thanks Peter.

    Peter,

    Use xset to find out the server's characteristics; xset is part of
    the UNSUPPORTED savesets in Ultrix 4.2. If xset is installed, you
    should be able to find it in /usr/bin/X11.

xset -q

Keyboard Control:
  auto repeat: on key click percent: 50 LED mask: 00000000

	.
Font Path:
  /usr/lib/X11/fonts/decwin/75dpi/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/apps/75dpi/
	.
	.

    The sample output above shows the server is using 75dpi fonts.
