829.0. "PCSA DOS V4.0 AND STATIONS PROBLEM!!!" by ZPOVC::RAMARAJ () Fri Mar 22 1991 10:17

    With PCSA DOS 3.x, I was able to register a PC depca card as a station.

    After upgrading to PCSA DOS 4.0, the register does not work with the
    PC, the error is unable to communicate with the target.

    The NML is set up in the PC and I can register it as a NODE4 entity and
    can query it like any other NODE4.

    Is there some problem with PCSA DOS V4.0 and MCC station registration?

    Are PCs running PCSA DOS officially supported in MCC. ie, be monitored
    and managed like other NODE4 and STATION entities?

829.1I don't think MOP V4.0 changedNAC::SCHLENERFri Mar 22 1991 17:137
    That's interesting. We (PCSG) did go to the NDIS driver in V4.0. However,
    I would think that all the station AM did on a register is issue a MOP
    SYSid to the particular station. As far as I know, the MOP code wasn't
    changed in V4.0.
    Have you sent mail to Chris Brennan?

829.2Try other commands, too.CHRISB::BRIENENDECmcc Bridge|Station|SNMP Management.Mon Mar 25 1991 10:1523
  Depending on the type of Station being Registered, the Ethernet AM will
  try one (or more) of the following:

	- REQUEST-ID (Ethernet V2.0 format packet)
	- REQUEST-ID (EEE802 format packet)
	- IEEE802 TEST
	- Ethernet V2.0 Loopback

  Please check to see if any of the following commands work:

     TEST STATION <enet-addr> - defaults to EnetV2 Loopback
     SHOW STATION <enet-addr> ALL CHAR	- defaults to EnetV2 REQ-ID
     TEST STATION <enet-addr> -
	FUNC SUPP = IEEE802_Only	- does IEEE802 TEST

     <enet-addr> should be the DECnet Physical Address (AA-00-04-00-...).

  Try using NCP (LOOP CIRCUIT?) to check ethernet loopback.
  If you have NMCC/VAX ETHERnim available, test it with that too.

  P.S. Hope PCSA DOS 4.0 didn't break MOP...
829.3Possible PCSA TCPIP drivers problem?ZPOVC::RAMARAJTue Apr 02 1991 10:3623
    The test stated in .2 by Chris were tried. Results as follows:

    FOR DECNET SYSTEMS

    The test were successful. Stations can be registered, queried,
    everything. The alternate address must be used.

    FOR NON-DECNET SYSTEMS

    PCSA DOS TCPIP PCs(DEPCA cards) do respond to any of the commands.
    Testing with IEEE802_only, Enetv2_only, DEC_enetv2 and DEC_IEEE802, all
    gives: cannot communicate with target.

    Could be a possible problem with the drivers provided with the PCSA DOS
    TCPIP s/w.

    Has anyone succesfully registered a DEPCA card running PCSA DOS TCPIP?

    I'm going to try to register one of my Ultrix DS5000's ethernet card,
    with DECnet turned off. Lets see what happens??
