796.1 | DECmcc TCP/IP DA FM? | CHRISB::BRIENEN | DECmcc Bridge|Station|SNMP Management. | Thu Mar 14 1991 12:54 | 13 |
| You might want to check into the DECmcc TCP/IP Diagnostic Assistant FM.
One sentence taken from the Phase 0 doc: "The goal of this project is to
be able to diagnose the major problems that a user encounters when using
a host in a TCP/IP internetwork." (there's lots of stuff mentioned that
has nothing to do with SNMP).
Contact the Product Manager, Junell Silver (DELNI::J_SILVER), for a copy
of the Phase 0 Requirements document. She can probaby point you at other
specs related to it.

796.2 | Roll your own | WELCLU::MCCALLUM | | Fri Mar 15 1991 12:11 | 13 |

If you want to monitor the status in the short term then I think you'll
have to write your own access module. The other alternatives are a
different tool (MSU or NETsystem (ENOP)) which can do it.
Doing your own access module can be quick if the entity model is very
simple (which it can be just for status). Christophe Hagenmuller has
written a simple AM which works via a proprietary TCP/IP protocol. It
could be modified to do a ping.

796.3 | another possible solution | TOOK::MATTHEWS | | Fri Mar 22 1991 11:34 | 5 |
| Also contact Karl Mollander (NWACES::MOLLANDER). He has DECmcc AM
developers available for contract work. I think it would be a simple
effort for his people to put together the Ping AM.

796.4 | PING AM soon available | TLSE01::HAGENMULLER | | Tue Mar 26 1991 09:02 | 9 |

The person from STERIA ( a french third party company ) who worked
with us to write the UB AM will modify this AM to developp the "PING AM" .
We will provide her with a piece of sotfware for implementing the ping
icmp function under VMS/UCX1.3 .
This AM should be available before mid april ( according to Jean Marc ).

796.5 | Ping AM pings ! | CCIIS1::ROGGEBAND | _ hilie _ | Thu Apr 11 1991 13:28 | 14 |
| Re : . -1
Well, we've done it, the Ping AM was developped in 5 days by a
contractor from Steria. She used the design framework (neat tool that!)
It provides a status attribute "Vivant" or "Mort" (Dead or Alive) for
objects responding to ICMP echo requests.
It will be installed at Peugeot Automobiles in the very near future for
extensive testing. For availability aspects, contact Jean-Marc Moser
(STRASB::MOSER).
Amicalement,
Philippe.

796.6 | PING AM works nicely | CUJO::HILL | | Sat Apr 27 1991 00:28 | 12 |
| I have just enrolled and tested the PING AM. Mon Dieu! It works
beautifully. Now I can register SUN nodes which do not understand
other protocols or are lacking SNMP agents (see note 694.7)
Philippe, you did a nice job of coding. I am interested in how ICMP
will be implemented in the next release of DECmcc (see note 694.5,
also). Depending on whether or not the desired functionality will be
present, I may have to talk my management into sending $$ to Jean-Marc
for the source code.
Thanks,
Dan
