I am looking for someone within DEC that has a Novell Server on
an ethernet that I can get access to for some simple testing.
I am trying to help DEC Australia EIC build a demo for a large
customer of theirs. They will be building a minimal Novell
AM to discover Novell Servers on an attached ethernet. They will
be working from LKG during the months of March and April and
need a Server that uses the SAP protocol to broadcast its
presence on Ethernet to test their functionality.
The only active communications between the AM and the server
will be a simple get of server attributes and receiving
SAP protocol broadcasts. Access to a Server during late March
and during April would help DEC win a very large commitment
and would be very much appreciated by every one involved.

| 765.2 | Can you Monitor/Test Netware nodes with DECmcc? | RODGER::MILES | Rodger S. Miles, Central ANC | Thu Jun 06 1991 15:05 | 20 |
Normally, Netware Ethernet nodes use IEEE 802.3 packets, and therefore
cannot be seen by Ethernim. They can be seen by LTM however, which just
indicates that they exist and are sending 802.3 type packets (no real
indication of the real protocol type).
Has anyone used the DECmcc Ethernet/802.3 access module with a Netware
node? Do netware nodes respond to XID requests? Do they support the 802
loopback test?
If the access module and Netware nodes support these functions, then a
Basic Management Station should provide a reasonable tool for the monitoring
of Netware connectivity.
We are proposing this to a customer, but don't have any Netware nodes
on our network to test against.

| 765.3 | Novell Netware AM exists in DOWNUNDA | TOOK::MATTHEWS | Fri Jun 07 1991 10:27 | 18 | |
DEC Australia EIC has developed a Novell Netware AM as a special for
one of their customers. The AM is in 2 parts. They install a small
communications server on a PC in the local network that talks to
all the Netware devices on that LAN. The Vax resident AM uses the
PC server process as a front end to work around some issues of
the Ethernet driver not being able to concurrently handle the IPX
protocol and Enet V2. The AM talks to the server task using DECnet
so the PC has to have DECnet Dos or DECnet OS2 and also it
requires the yet unannounced/unreleased Netware coexistence softare
from PCSG.
More detailed information can be had via David Moss the developer.
David's e-mail address is AUSSIE::MOSS.
David spent a month in LKG working with us to get the prototype
working. He is a member of the extended MCC development community.
