Chipcom is very strong at TRW and could make
the diffenence between a sale and no sale.
Thanks,

Steve,
I've been in the same situation with Chipcom at my account.
After beating my head against the wall for some time over this issue I finally
gave in and went with DECmcc MSU with the Chipcom MIB extensions.
It appears that Chipcom has put its resources to work on developing an SNMP
management agent as their first priority. The ONline SNMP capabilities were
supposed to roll out as a product the first of April.
The information that I'm gertting from Chipcom is that a DECmcc AM is on the
back burner, and may in fact never happen. They may elect to just manage
their concentrators with SNMP DECmcc DIR SNMP AM, DECmcc MSU, or any other
SNMP management station. (BTW... the SNMP AM for BMS does not have support
Chipcom MIBs at this time, and probably will not until V1.2 later this year.)
If you want to talk to someone at Chipcom about their management directions,
give me a call and I'll give you the name of the director of management
development.
This probably is not what you want to hear, but I'm fighting the same battle
as you.
Later...
Merlin

Let me make the statement a little stronger...
You will be able to manage the Chipcom devices (private MIBs
and such) with DECmcc V1.2 due out later this calander year.
We will be using the SNMP AM. Jon Goodridge of the SVP group
may have additional info, but I believe the only mgt will be
	via SNMP.
This past Friday, we closed Phase I. Our planned SSB date for
V1.2 (VMS and Ultrix) is 30-Sep-1991, FRS early November.

| | There is an AM for some Chipcom devices?....

I was part of a joint presentation yesterday which consisted of
    Digital, Chipcom, and Customer representatives.

The Chipcom rep told everyone that Chipcom's prototype AM has been
delivered to Digital for functional verification and that Digital
will distribute this AM as part of a DECmcc/EMA release this summer
    (June/July).

    Regards,

    Glen R.

P.S. if anyone is interested in contact names send me mail.

    Hi,
I'm Doug McPherson and I'm an engineer in the DECmcc Strategic Vendor
    Program.

There has been no Chipcom AM delivered to *us*. The only thing that
we've done (engineering-wise) with Chipcom is to verify their
Ethermodem with the Digital BRIDGE AM.
Chipcom *may* have at some point delivered a MIB of theirs to Jon
Goodridge, my manager, for some sort of testing against the DECmcc SNMP
stuff (but a MIB does not an AM make...). Howeverm Jon's out of the
country right now, so we'll have to wait and see.
I (personally) know of no plans for Digital to distribute Chipcom's AM
(whatever that turns out to be). BUT if we do include their MIB
extensions in the next release of the SNMP AM, then that's a slightly
different matter. (Feel free to jump in here anytime, Chris...)

Like I said: The BRIDGE AM can manage the Chipcom Ethermodem. (It's
just a LANBridge100 chip repackaged into a broadband Ethernet chassis.)

Yes, I would be very interested to find out who is saying this and
where they get there information. Please send me mail.
