757.0. "DNS loaner licenses" by DELNI::J_SILVER () Wed Feb 27 1991 13:39
This memo is an update on the efforts current being worked around DNS and it's
implications to DECmcc. Please note that the problem is being worked on
several fronts. The DNS loaner program solves the immediate need to
provide DNS for those EMS/SMS customers who did not know that DNS is a
prerequisite for BMS.
1) DNS loaner program for current products
2) Optional DNS for DECmcc
3) changing the DNS pricing strategy
Deepak Goyal is working with Kevin Lynch (DNS Product Manager) and his
management to quickly change the pricing of DNS. Deepak"s goal is for this
to occur before DECmcc BMS V1.1 ships. Engineering and product management
is looking into making DNS optional for DECmcc with V1.2.
DNS currently is in the software loaner program. Before a customer can order
one of the DNS loaner licenses, they must sign a loan agreement through their
sales rep. CAS then processes the loan part number and ships out the product
to the customer.
It is interesting to note that in Q4 or Q1 a 90 day loan program will be
mandatory for all software products. The program will be administered by
DMO whereby telemarketing will follow up on customers using the loan products.
The following are the DNS loaner licenses numbers:
QL-VERA9-LA 90 days
QL-VERA9-LB 30 days
QL-VERA9-LC 45 days
QL-VERA9-LD 60 days
QL-VERA9-LE 120 days
QL-VERA9-LF 150 days
QL-VERA9-LG 180 days
QL-VERA9-LH 1 year
All the loaner licenses numbers can be located through the price file in VTX
under the DNS license number QL-VERA9- . The loaner numbers are at the
end of the listing. H-kits are included in the loaner program.
A possible problem may be the length of time for the PAK for the loaner
license. The loaner program is trying to standardize on a 90 day PAK.
However, the DNS loaner program began in November, 1988 (well before any
standardization begin) and therefore should have PAKs which are the same
lenght as the license. Software Pricing Administration verifies that there
are currently many active DNS loaner licenses.
