750.0. "MIR and Objectivity ?" by BRUXL::LATOUCHE () Fri Feb 22 1991 09:52
Hello,
I have a question with regard to Object Oriented approach and what we say with
DECmcc : We are using Object-oriented models for Entity modeling, we say the
MM inter-module communication services have an 'Object-oriented style'.
Digital recently announced in November that we are selling an Object Oriented
DBMS called OBJECTIVITY (available on VMS and ULTRIX).
This was developped by Objectivity Corp.
Is the migration of the current MIR (or portion of the MIR) structure to
OBJECTIVITY part of the DECmcc strategy ?
If yes, any deadline ? if not, what else ?
I ask this question, because next week we have a European Customer seminar
in Valbonne with presentations on Object Oriented technology and on
EMA/DECmcc - So customers will ask the question for sure !
Thanks for any hints !
Marc.

| Hi Marc,
The migration of the MCC MIR to an O-O database has been under
consideration for some time. When we evolve to Entity Model V2
(inheritance) and answer a number of other questions we will
eventually resolve these issues.
It is quite obvious to us that the current attempt to map the entity
model to a relational model is workable but awkward - we need to
