Hi, I am a new user to MCC and am working at a customer site on multiple projects. What came to light today was that in the SPD it wasn't clear that DNS was required for MCC, also there was no indication of what the implications are if you don't imlement DNS concurrently with MCC. Bottom line is that sales and marketing are not well informed about the requirements and needs of MCC. What scares me is that most of those folks attended (internal) Network University last week. I'm the consultant on-site dealing with with the after-math of the cycle per se. This notes file has been great thusfar, I just wish that the comment and questions in this confernece could have made it to the people who need it most first...sales...marketing... before it bites us people on-site in the butt.. "No flames intended", just some comments. I hope that the rest of my on-site goes well. Michael

A comment in return--for v1.1 of MCC, you will *not* have to have DNS installed to merely install MCC. You can install DNS after MCC. HOWEVER, to make some USE of MCC, you *will* need DNS, and a properly configured Namespace. There are tools to help with this configuration on the MCC kits. The DECmcc Installation manual (see the kit announcement in 3.49 for a documentation pointer) for v1.1 will have more on MCC and DNS, and more on MCC requirements, at install time anyway. Once all that is taken care of (I'm not making light of "all that", mind you!) DNS ought to be pretty much invisible to the user of MCC. DNS shows up in things like the Registration FM and "unregistered entity" or "entity not found" messages--which why NET U might not emphasize DNS when discussing MCC. Ruth Kohls

DECdns may be invisible for the USER of DECmcc, but it is NOT invisible for the either the BUYER of DECmcc or the INSTALLER. Today, DECdns adds cost to the DECmcc product (as does CDD and perhaps Datatrieve). These additional costs are not obvious to the sales person to is going to an account. s/rob
737.3 | DECdns Loaned for DECmcc customers. (in Europe). | BONNET::MALAISE | All you need is laugh! | Sun Feb 24 1991 11:29 | 11 |
Sales Updates have been published on this subject (October edition in Europe) . There is a loan program for DECdns for customer buying DECmcc . The loan is planned up to Phase V avaibility ( because DECdns should be included within phase V ). This is what Corp. said , so that's what we have implemented in Europe. Regards . MaRc . |
