705.0. "how to create a map automatically? (FM?)" by CLARID::HOFSTEE (Take a RISC, buy a VAX) Mon Feb 11 1991 10:12
A while ago I wrote a utility to make automatically a layout of the ethernim
database and we were wandering if this functionality could be ported to
DECmcc. I played around a little bit with DECMCC V1.0 and went through the
AM programming manual, but a certain number of things are not clear to me.
Suppose that I want to create a module that would do something like
(from the DECMCC prompt)
MCC>CREATE LAYOUT
Now the module goes through all stored components (systems, servers, delni's etc)
, looks how they are connected and calculates automatically a layout and
generates the complete picture. With such a module , the user only has to
store his components , but not make a map of the layout.
This map can then be printed in postscript or send to a plotter.
Now how would I go about that?
Do I have to write an FM, and if so, how is this done and is there some example
code ,or documentation, on writing FM's?
How are connections stored in DECMCC? How and where are segments stored?
Is there anybody already working on something similar?
Thanks for any info

| Butch McKinney is doing this now.
I'll ask him to post a short note detailing just what he is
doing so others can comment and contribute.

Hello World.
I get some trouble in coding the mcc_call to use the REGISTER

Does anybody have an example of such code? or the prganisation of
the register directive code?
Thanks.

This subject is discussed in not 221 (keyword=register). You should
be able to find what you are looking for there. If not please feel
free to add in any additional questions on the subject (prefferably)
in that note.
