    As mentionned earlier in this notesfile , we are in the short list for
    managing the network of Aerospatiale ( rather tcp/ip net ) .
    After 2 months of test of DECmcc , our customer gave us his feeling on
    EMA architecture and DECmcc product .
    
    Some comments may seem useless , but don't forget a customer's feeling
    is often tell-tale ( in france , we have a proverb "there is no smoke
    without fire " )
    
    
    1) CONFIGURATION 
    ----------------
    
    	a) to register an entity it must be reachable .
    	   This is an important drawbac kbecause it prevents from building
    	   the configuration of the net before the entities are connected
    	   to .
    
    	b) it's not easy to create a new domain .
    	   ( it is but our customer didn't find immediately and gave up
    	     after 5 minutes )
    
    	c) There is a lack of tools outside of DECmcc to access the
    	   configuration database : assume you want to produce the list of
    	   all nodes managed by SNMP or by a particular person , how to do
    	   it easily ? ( DNS access is not user-friendly enough )
    
    
    2) FAULTS
    ---------
    
    	a) alarm rules are working well ( including colors changes , .... )
    
    	b) getevent doesn't work on SNMP entities .
    
    
    
    3) PERFORMANCE 
    --------------
    
    	Performance FM is lacking ....
    	( it exists but the popup menus described in the doc don't )
    	
    	After some explanations our customer tried to get some performance
    	measurements : the documentation is necessary to understand what
    	scope of interest exactly consists of .
    
    
    4) HISTORIAN - EXPORT
    ---------------------
    
    	a) historian : this FM applies only on partition , not on attributs 	
    
    	b) export : ok with command line 
    		    some pb with Decwindow ( known "in domain" error )
    
    	Both FM need to known VMS to start batch processes .
    
    	c) Decdecision is too difficult to use 
    	   ( we had provided him with DECdecision to build graphical
 	     outputs from RDB tables )
    
    
    
    5) NEW AM DEVELOPPEMENT
    -----------------------
    
    	a) Dev toolkit is very useful 
    
    	b) EMA architecture is well defined ....
    
    	c) a new AM can be integrated in DECmcc quickly .
    
    	d) some problems with UCX sockets programming .
    
    
    
    6) OTHER COMMENTS
    -----------------
    
    	a) the Decwondows PM is too much ..... "� la DEC" oriented .
    	   you must read the doc to use this PM .
           ( our customer is used to work on a SUN station .... )
    
    	b) you cannot add private MIB extension .
    
    	c) you cannot manage the traffic on separate segments 
    	   ( lack of a LTM FM .... )
    
    
    
    We compete with HP/OPENVIEW .
