666.0. ""Responsibility"-logging" by STKHLM::AMARTENSSON (smooth as ice) Mon Jan 28 1991 08:53

Hi,

I've got the following question from a customer:

Will it be possible in the future to have any kind of follow-on
logging on an alarm or event. Ie which operator have notified an
alarm, who's responsible to take the appropriate action, and if
a fault has been corrected.

Thanks in advance

This sounds like a form of a common customer request: When will
there be a "trouble ticket" FM?

I am very interested in the possibilities of an FM such as this. Can
you describe further what sort of features might be required or which features
are the most commonly asked for? I have also heard this request and I am very
interested in finding out what other people think about this subject. Any
replies would be greatly appreciated!!!

The features I've been asked for is mostly Netview-like.

The customer wants to keep track of the following

What person detected the fault, either by username or if
the fault is severe it should be mandatory to give the
	personal name
On who's responsibility it is to correct the fault or,
if no action is needed that should be stated in the logg
A notification that the fault has been corrected and how
A possibility to list all uncorrected faults

666.4Faults vs. alarms?RIVAGE::SILVACarl SilvaTue Jan 29 1991 08:2138
	RE: .3,

>The features I've been asked for is mostly Netview-like.

Can you give me some more specific details of how Netview assigns user
ownership to alarms or if Netview supports something similar to trouble
tickets?

>What person detected the fault, either by username or if
>	the fault is severe it should be mandatory to give the
>	personal name

So does Netview track faults and alarms or is an alarm a fault? If
not, can a user associate alarms and other info with a fault.

>On who's responsibility it is to correct the fault or,

Where does this info come from in Netview?

>	if no action is needed that should be stated in the logg

Which log is this? A special fault log?

>A notification that the fault has been corrected and how

How does a fault get corrected? Is it a special attribute on the
fault that gets set or a special status? Is the "how" entered in text on the
fault?

>A possibility to list all uncorrected faults

This would be the faults that are in a corrected state or are these
faults that reside in a file seperate from the normal faults (not yet
corrected)?

Thanks for any feedback to this note!!!

Trouble ticketing is definitely of interest to DECmcc. Some work
in this area is underway. I will pass along your requests for
information on "when" and "what will it do" because I do not know
what has been officially stated in this area.
