633.0. "Question on TGV and SNMP" by MAIL::HELTON () Thu Jan 17 1991 10:12

    I Have a customer who is looking at DECmcc. They have a Vax 9000 and
    are running TGV Multinet. I do not know what that is, but the customer
    tells me that UCX cannot coexist with it.
    The question is can they still use the SNMP capabilities of DECmcc?

    I also have a customer with this question. They have a variety
    of VAX's, SUN's, Cisco routers, and lots of "other". They use the
    MULTINET software and asked the same MULTINET--UCX questions.

	In general, any two TCP/IP products on VMS cannot share an Ethernet
	controller, since they take exclusive ( nonshareable ) use of some
	of the TCP/IP protocols at the Ethernet level. UCX is no exception.

	The V1.0 TCP/IP SNMP access module used UCX's QIO interface, so
	UCX is required. I've since recoded the AM's I/O module to use the
	standard TCP/IP socket interface. This means, IN THEORY, that the
	AM should work with "anyone's" TCP/IP product that provides a socket
	routine library.

	The current thinking is that the next release of the access module
	may be linked against anyone's TCP/IP on site.

	Regards,
	Mike
