When using the SET directive for an entity within the iconic map interface, the settable parameters for the given entity are displayed, but to see the current values for these parameters, one must select the "Show Values" directive from the Operations menu. I'm often being asked why aren't the current values of the respective parameters shown by default. I cann't think of any situation where a network manager would not want to know what the value of a parameter is before changing it with a SET directive. Is this going to change? If not, what is the reasoning behind the implementation? Thanks. Mgc

It has been an item on the to do list for a long time (show/set) at this time I don't know where/when it might get done. Jim L. or Verna maybe one of you could shed some lite. | |||||

Merlin, There has been much discussion about whether to display the current values of an entity when the directive is of type modify. The main reason (that I can remember) we did not automatically display the current values is that depending on where the entity is, it might take a while to get the results to display and thus cause a wait (especially tiresome if you know the value to which you want to set an attribute). In a future release, we could display them automatically or make the display of current values for a SET a customizable value for the user. We are certainly open to user input. Verna |
