602.0. "Problem with getting circuit info" by NETCUR::WADE (Bill Wade T&N Course Development) Wed Jan 09 1991 11:18

    I have EFT V1.1 running on a VMS 5.4 system.
    From the Iconic Map I want to check if a BNA circuit on a node4 entity has
    service enabled so I do the following:

    	double click on a node4 entity
    	select circuit
        select operations
    	show char

    I get a DECmcc message:

    "Management Window Message: Unexpected information was returned in outp:
    								 code = 58"

    and all the char info except service is displayed.

    If I do the same for a CI circuit I get all the relevant info including
    service.

    This all works fine from the FCL.

The Management Window Message: Unexpected information was returned in outp:
code = 58

means that the Node4 AM returned an attribute which, according to its MSL
and the variant type that this circuit is, is not in the list of attributes
to be expected back. We let the user know about this. In general, it means
the MSL has a problem for that attribute and that variant. Jim Carey is
going to look at that end of things.

The Iconic Map PM does extra checking when an entity class has variant
information. The FCL simply displays what is returned in outp. That is
why you see a difference.

602.2Oops, missed one (at least!)TOOK::CAREYThu Jan 10 1991 11:3218

    Bill,

    We've tried as much as possible to isolate the various attributes
    returned for different types of circuits and to collect them (as
    variants) in the entity class dictionary.

    Our goal is to give the Iconic Map interface as much information as
    possible to guide the user in setting up the wide range of DECnet
    Phase 4 circuits.

    We missed this one. I'll get it as a bug into our QAR system, and make
    sure that the V1.1 dictionary correctly reflects this attribute.

    Thanks for letting us know.
